General Guidelines

Our installation suggestions and examples are commonly accepted proposals. Any out of the ordinary styles of construction due to local circumstances, must be authorised by the planning body. The basic technical rules and guidelines generally accepted among experts should be taken into consideration during installation.

-

  1. The load class (according to EN 1433) in the various local laying situations must be taken into consideration.

  2. BG concrete drains have to be laid in an earth-moist foundation. (See the table for measurements) whereby it is important to make sure that the gradient of the drain (0,5%) has been accurately excavated By cured concrete foundations, it is absolutely essential that there is a bed of mortar of at least 2 cm. .It is most important, that the proper tools be used when laying the drain elements (e.g. BG installation tools)

  3. A supporting wedge at the side is necessary, according to statically requirements (See table below).

  4. Observe the different heights of drains with gradient and start the laying at the outlet of the channel line.  Each drain is marked with an arrow showing the direction of flow.

  5. The safety rabbet between each channel can be sealed with the appropriate sealing compound, according to the area of use. (See the processing guidelines of the BG - Sealing System)

  6. Pay attention to the fact, that the grates must be inserted prior to the construction of the adjoining floor surface. (For Example during the usage of a pile-driver) and to rule out any mechanical damage, make sure that they do not come into contact with the channels.

  7. By use in heavily frequented areas, we advise that the covers employed, are screwed on according to the place of operation, frequency and speed of traffic driving over the surface (can be screwed on up to 8 times). It is important to make sure that the screw connections represent a powerful and durable link.

  8. Between the BG channels and the connection to the roadway, it may be necessary (e.g. owing to horizontal forces in the vicinity of concrete areas) to insert a spacer with a maximum interval of 0,5 m. In the case of the spacer crossing the drain, it must be fixed so that the spacer arrives at the exact place where the drain stops.

  9. The entire length of all adjacent concrete surfaces should be approximately 3-5 mm higher than the surface of the grates.

  10. The same installation guidelines also apply to gullies.
